Problem

The Price of Synthetic Convenience

Each year, artificial turf systems release thousands of tonnes of microplastics into the environment, polluting soil and water and threatening human and ecological health. In response, the EU will ban microplastic infill by 2031.

Beyond microplastics, the industry depends heavily on fossil-based plastics, petroleum-derived rubber, and deforestation-linked natural rubber (hevea)—driving long-term environmental harm, carbon emissions, and biodiversity loss.

Our response

Plant-based innovation

Taraxa is transforming how we build and play—starting with artificial turf, and reaching far beyond it. Our first solution is a 99%+ biobased rubber infill made from the rubber dandelion (Taraxacum kok-saghyz), a regenerative alternative to petroleum-derived rubber and microplastic-based materials.

But this is only the beginning.

By replacing fossil-based synthetics and reducing dependency on deforestation-linked hevea plantations, we’re addressing the deeper environmental costs embedded in global material systems. The rubber dandelion also opens new possibilities—from localized rubber production to inulin-based bioproducts—enabling circular, resilient economies rooted in nature.

Taraxa’s mission is clear: to shift the foundation of materials from extractive to regenerative—starting from the ground up

Why act?

Prevention starts now

Waiting until 2031 is not an option.

Start piloting sustainable turf materials

Adjust procurement and design standards

Align with new LCA and ESG expectations

Build resilient and future-proof infrastructure

The future is natural

How we can all contribute

A shift away from microplastics, fossil-based rubber, and deforestation-linked materials is not just necessary—it’s possible.

By embracing regenerative solutions like the rubber dandelion, we can reimagine the systems beneath our feet, from turf fields to public infrastructure.

This transition requires all of us—municipalities, sports federations, manufacturers, consultants—to play a part. But more than roles, it requires mindset: from extractive to restorative, from synthetic to natural.

The future is already growing. Let’s move with it.
